Biography
Gillian Ferrier grew up in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Canada and first graced the stage at age 3. With childhood roles that included Princess Ying Yaolack in The King and I and Little Cosette in Neptune Theatre’s production of Les Miserables, Gillian went on to study acting at Concordia University in Montreal and Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City.
While at Concordia, Gillian co-created Waking the Girl Productions, an all female company dedicated to producing works written by Canadian women. The controversial The Fairies are Thirsty, by Denise Boucher, made Centaur Theatre’s “Top 10” list at the Montreal Fringe Festival. Misery Loves Company, written by Gillian, was produced by Centaur Theatre’s Wildside Festival, and was touted as "the festival's best-realized...most theatrically sophisticated entry" (Montreal Gazette). In Nova Scotia she starred in a number of indie theatrical productions including Closer and The Balcony, and toured for two seasons with Neptune Theatre’s Young Company, performing for thousands of children on Canada's East Coast.
On screen, Gillian played the role of Kara, the precocious Girl Scout leader on HBO Canada's Call Me Fitz staring Jason Priestley. The role led to a Gemini nomination for Best Ensemble Cast. She has worked with Hilary Swank in Amelia and Mia Wasikowska in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming thriller Crimson Peak. Gillian recently wrote, produced and starred in short film Shavasana, directed by Ian MacMillan, premiering at the Atlantic Film Festival in September 2015.
